ベルリンで毎年開催されている, 世界最大のアート&デジタルカルチャーの祭典「transmediale2008」で発表され, 同フェスティバルの展示のなかでも最も大きな注目と評価を集めたfilmachine. 予測不可能な進化を遂げ続ける第三項音楽とその成果の行方を, filmachineの制作と過程を追いながら, 記録映像などを交え, ベルリンでの展示を振り返る. それとともに, アートにおけるサウンドの可能性の拡張についての刺激的なディスカッションが交わされる. 今回の報告会では, 本展示のプロデュースを行ったアンドレアス・ブレックマン(前トランスメディアーレ総合ディレクター)と, キュレーターのシュテファン・リーケルスをベルリンから迎え, 日本側からは, 制作者である渋谷慶一郎, 池上高志, evalaが参加. またゲストとして, 本作品をYCAMで制作・キュレーションした阿部一直と, インタコミュニケーション誌最新号「音楽/メディア特集」で渋谷と対談, 「マキシマル・ミュージック論」で同作品について論じた佐々木敦を迎える.

「拡張していくパルスの行方 〜日本の最前線を担う音響作〜」
SONYとの環境音プロジェクトやATAKのサウンドプログラムで異彩を放つサウンド・アーティスト, evalaのソロ・アルバム「initial」(PTCD002)が自身の主宰するportよりリリースされた. 存在感のあるパルスが脳に突き刺さるような電子音が印象的だが, 楽曲の完成度も高い. 音数こそ少なめだが曲のバラエティは広く, 飽きさせない10曲. オリジナルの特殊マイクで作ったと思われるフィードバック・ノイズも効果的に配置され, 具体的な音と電子音の絡み合いにもセンスが光る. パンの振り方やステレオの定位のバランスもよく, 丁寧に作られた聴き応えのある1枚.

「ダンボールに梱包された音楽情報メディア」
サウンド・アーティストの evala（江原寛人）による新譜「initial」は, 段ボール紙のジャケットに入っている. 凹凸のあるクッション面を内側にしてディスクを保護し, 裏面には収録曲名やクレジットが理路整然と細かく記載されている. 唯一のグラフィックは表面の下部にあしらわれた「取扱注意」「われもの」「水濡れ禁止」のマークだけ. 工業製品を思わせるこのデザイン, 見た目は禁欲的なのに手にしてみると何ともいえないフェティッシュな質感がある. そもそもレコードやCDのジャケットは何かと言えば, それは録音盤（=ディスク）を傷つけずに 搬送し保管するための外装（=ジャケット）なのだ. 昔のSP盤は紙袋だけで売られていたし, 現代のDJ用アナログ12インチのレーベル穴空き紙ジャケも本来はラジオ局が使っていた業務用ケースのなごりで, 合理的だけを目的とした非デザイン的プロダクトとして何とも言えない呪物性がある. 似た者を他に挙げてみるなら, 古い岩波文庫に巻かれていたロウ紙や, 納豆を包んでいた竹の皮とか, それ自体には全く価値はないが本体と一体化することで絶妙な味わいを醸し出すマテリアル. 実は一昨年リリースされたportの第1作もまったく同じ仕様の紙ジャケだった（おそらく次の3作目も）. この質実剛健主義（≒ミニマニズム）のデザイン思想に包まれたevalaのサウンドは, 電気パーツのように精密で, 生鮮野菜のようにみずみずしい. 秋葉原がその昔, 野菜市場だったことをふと思い出した. もちろん野菜も段ボール箱に入れられて流通する.

《REAL TOKYO 2006-01》

ATAKチームの一員でもあるevalaが04年に立ち上げたレーベルportから, 第一弾のコンピレーション以降長い沈黙を経て, 14ヶ月ぶりに新作がでた. evala本人のソロ作で, 両氏ともいやがるかもしれないが, 渋谷慶一郎と比較されることになるだろう. 後者の, ときに痛いほど刺激的なサウンドに対して, evalaはリスナーに心地よい電子シャワーをかける. 同じく技術的・芸術的に最先端といっても, こちらはより広い層の電子音楽ファンにうけそう. ただ, コンピに収録された曲から想像していたほどリズミカルではなく, 気が遠くなるほど細かい音による「環境音楽」だ.
